Pop Art Tutorial Inspired by Lichtenstein
Pop Art Tutorial Inspired by Lichtenstein is a post by Melissa Clifton, who talks about how she created a Lichtenstein-inspired pop art piece with just some colors and Photoshop. It’s an interesting tutorial because it goes into detail on the steps that go into creating a pop art piece at such a high level of sophistication.
Pop Art was created in the late 1950s and early 1960s by British artists such as David Hockney, Francis Bacon, and Roy Lichtenstein. It is a style of art that uses bright colors, cartoon-like figures, and comic-book-like compositions to create an energetic and fun atmosphere. Today, Pop Art is still popular and can be found in many art galleries around the world. If you want to try out some Pop Art yourself, this Lichtenstein tutorial is perfect for you!
In this tutorial, we will be creating a Pop Art collage inspired by the works of Roy Lichtenstein. We will use various colors, shapes, and patterns to create an interesting and dynamic piece of artwork. This tutorial is suitable for anyone who wants to learn how to create pop art using basic techniques. Now, let’s take a look at the painting we will be creating in this tutorial: This is one of my favorite paintings by Roy Lichtenstein. You can see in the picture that he used different colors, shapes, and patterns to create an amazing collage.
In this tutorial, I will show you how I created this painting using Photoshop. Let’s begin!
To get started with this tutorial, open up the document you want to work on and add a new layer called ‘Background’. Now, let’s create our background. To do so, firstly select a color from your computer screen and copy it. Next, go to Edit – Paste (V) and paste your copied color into your document.
I created my background in black and white because it would look more realistic. I can use any color that I want, but I find this combination to be very powerful for painting backgrounds. Now add a new layer (Layer – New Layer) (Shift + N) above the ‘Background’ layer and name it ‘Background’.
Now, choose the Paint Bucket Tool from the Tools tab on the left. Using a large brush ( Shift + L), paint with this color all over your document (press F5 to see your document on full screen). Make sure you don’t paint over your original background! If you don’t know how to paint with a brush size that looks good, try painting with a smaller brush first, so you can adjust to your taste. In the example below, I have painted a large white circle on the bottom of my document.
I then used a smaller brush to paint blue lines over the large white circle, and another small brush to paint the large white circle a brown color. You can always adjust your brushes downward or outward as needed. You should make sure you don’t lose your original background!
What is Pop Art?
Pop Art is a type of art that is associated with the late 1950s and early 1960s. It is characterized by its use of bright colors, bold shapes, and often humorous or ironic depictions of everyday life. Pop Art rejects established artistic styles and is based on the idea that art should be accessible to everyone.
Pop Art emerged as a result of an artistic movement called the New York School. During the 1950s and early 1960s, a group of artists known as the New York School was highly influential in various fields of art such as painting, sculpture, and graphic design. The works produced by these artists were considered pop art because they were intended to appeal to mass audiences. For example, Andy Warhol’s paintings are typical examples of pop art.
Warhol’s red-orange portraits have distorted features and vivid color schemes. These features make his paintings very different from those painted by other famous artists. Pop artist Paul McCarthy’s work is also notable. His hyperrealistic paintings feature images of the everyday world and objects that are similar to real things. He takes photographs and uses a computer to create his paintings.
In the 1960s, a group of young artists labeled the Pop Art Movement challenged traditional artistic styles by making works that appeared more immediate and accessible. The artists who created these new works defined pop art as ‘art which is essentially mass-produced,’ rather than ‘art which appeals to an elite.’
Different Types of Pop Art
Pop art is a type of art that is characterized by its use of bright colors and geometric shapes. It is often associated with the 1960s, but it has been around for a longer time. This tutorial will teach you how to create your own pop art style.
1. Start by using a thin brush to paint a large circle in the center of your canvas. Use bright colors to fill in the circle, and make sure to add some geometric shapes around it.
2. Next, start painting smaller circles around the main circle. Use different colors and shades to create different effects. Be sure to use plenty of contrast in your paintings, and experiment with different shapes and sizes.
3. Finally, add some text or other elements to finish off your piece. Try using bold colors and simple shapes to create a modern look.
How to Use Photoshop to Create Pop Art
This Lichtenstein pop art tutorial will show you how to create a simple, but striking pop art image using just Photoshop. All you need is a basic knowledge of Photoshop, some free time, and some creative ideas. You can use this tutorial to create your own pop art images or to learn how to apply pop art techniques to your own photos.
First, start by creating a new file in Photoshop and set the dimensions to 800×600 pixels. If you want to make your image look more like Lichtenstein’s work, try using a darker color palette and adding a bit of distortion to the edges of your shapes.
Next, start working on your composition. Start by drawing a grid on the canvas with some basic guidelines in mind- try to keep the shapes relatively square and evenly spaced. Once you have your grid in place, start filling in your shapes with various shades of grey. Be sure to use soft edges and avoid too much detail- Lichtenstein’s paintings often feature very simplistic shapes with few details.
Now it’s time for the fun part- adding texture and color! Add textures like sandpaper or rough paper to your pieces, or add bright colors like oranges or yellows. Be sure to use texture sparingly, and remember to have the color on all sides of your shapes.
Start creating your final piece! Once you’ve completed all other steps, it’s time to start working on textures, colors, and composition- these things will all be affected by what you do next. Start adding as many details as possible, but don’t get too crazy with it.
The more details you add in each step, the more work you’re going to have to do later. For example, if you draw a very detailed sun in one step, I recommend erasing that part before drawing something new. Next, draw a few different shades of grey for your clouds.
Finally, once your base color is complete it’s time to go back over true colors and draw in curves, lines, and shading. Don’t be afraid to add a lot of detail because you can always erase it later- most people don’t realize how much work they can save themselves by doing this! Once you’ve worked the majority of your piece- be it on paper or digital- do not just erase everything and start over again.
Lichtenstein was a master of pop art, and his work is full of vibrant colors and striking compositions. This Pop Art Tutorial will teach you how to create a Lichtenstein-inspired piece of your own. By following the instructions, you’ll be able to create a beautiful piece that will add a touch of elegance to any room in your home. Have fun!
