What is SEO? SEO… No, it’s not sew spelled wrong, it’s a computer (or, to be more precise, a web) acronym standing for Search Engine Optimization. As I tell my clients, it doesn’t matter if you have the best Web site in the world if nobody can find it. Search Engine Optimization is the process in which your web site is designed or modified to conform to the standards search engines set for indexing Web sites. That’s a pretty long way of saying it’s the way to get your site ranked higher in Google and Yahoo. Is it really needed? Some Web designers are saying that SEO is dead, or that keywords are no longer needed. That’s the same thing as saying it’s useless to advertise in the newspaper anymore. We know that it’s difficult to gauge exactly how well newspaper advertising does, but we also know that business goes up when we do advertise. Unlike traditional advertising, however, we can tell exactly what proper SEO achieves by studying statistics.
